Nigeria NCC: Updates to Type Approval Regulations for Telecommunications Devices
Lately, Nigeria’s Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) introduced important amendments to its type approval regulations.
Summary of Updates:
- Device Management System (DMS): The NCC Device Management System (NCC-DMS) now requires all Mobile Networks Operators (MNOs) to connect and synchronize their systems with the NCC-DMS. The system will collect and manage device records, including the IMEI numbers of all devices connecting to networks.
- Provisional Type Approval Timelines: Applicants now have a strict 60-day period to submit any requested documents. Failure to comply within this time frame will result in the application being deemed abandoned, requiring resubmission.
- Labelling Requirements: Devices with digital displays and remote login capabilities can now opt for e-labelling. However, packaging must still contain labels, including QR codes, model numbers, and other important details.
- Cybersecurity Compliance: The new regulation emphasizes cybersecurity standards, urging compliance with global frameworks like ETSI EN 303 645 for consumer IoT products and IEC 62443 certification for industrial devices.
